The purpose of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in Chorzów is to decongest traffic, mostly in terms of public transport, but also with respect to individual vehicles. The city’s traffic management system will handle end-to-end management of several subsystems, in particular public transport priorities and a linear traffic control and management subsystem. Drivers will receive a range of information, including messages on city traffic and on alternative routes or free parking spaces, for instance via variable message signs, parking information boards, as well as a dedicated website and a mobile application. Sprint will also deploy a video surveillance system at intersections and deliver license plate recognition cameras. Dynamic scales will be installed to identify overloaded vehicles, as well as weather stations informing about road surface conditions. The citizens of Chorzów will benefit from improved road conditions, and traffic within the city will become safer and smoother.
On 7 February 2018 Andrzej Kotala, the Mayor of Chorzów, signed a contract with Waldemar Matukiewicz, Vice President at Sprint.
